Product Details

This bauernwehr (TC100) style of medieval hunting and working knife was popular from the late 14thC to the early to mid 16thC, especially in the German and Swiss lands and Bohemia, but certainly also with other nations.  Byknives are often found on this style of knife and these have a handy stud to help removal from the secure scabbard.

Very similar knives are found in quantity in museums, but also in artwork by Gaston Phoebus and Bruegel.

They are always of stout construction and have the knuckle pin or nagel as a very characteristic feature, meaning that their intention was also for fighting.

Steel fittings, hollow steel rivets ebony wood panels on the main knife and the by knives have horn panels and brass fittings.

Edge sharpness

Semi-Sharp is 'butter knife sharp'; it has a very fine flat on the edge but can be sharpened for a little extra.

Sharp has been ground to give a reasonable edge, but final honing, if required, is by the customer. Byknives come sharp by default.

Please note: The colours may vary in tone from the photos here.  Each skin of leather is different and reacts differently to the dye so they may be darker or lighter in tone.
